Start tiny!
Whether it’s writing a book, picking a skill, learning a new language, or simply cleaning your house, projects often seem larger in our brains than they are in reality.
“Far too often, we don’t start because we can’t get our minds around the entire thing. We don’t take the first step because we can’t figure out the seventeenth step. But you don’t have to know the seventeenth step. You only have to know the first step…Start with 1.” -Rob Bell
Here’s Why Starting Small Works
It builds your habit of execution ⚙️
You can probably write three articles in a single day if you try, but it will drain you, and your brain will reject doing it again.
Instead what you want to do is grow into the habit and train your writing muscles.
one or two paragraphs a day until doing that feels smooth then increase the number. not just writing, this is true for almost everything.
It makes you practice and fine-tune your craft 🛠️
You'll learn what works for you and what doesn't, and you'll be more efficient in your process.
You get immediate feedback on what’s working and what’s not 💬
By creating small ideas and sharing them with people you receive fast feedback, and you get to know what sticks so you can double down on it.
You build your confidence as a maker 🛡️
Every time you finish a small idea, you feel accomplished. you feel proud of yourself. Because you are doing what you said, you are — a maker! ( designer, writer...)
Make Many
As Daniel Vassallo always says, build a "portfolio of small bets".
Ship something small with value, and ship it fast, and don't waste your time on hugely ambitious projects that require a ton of willpower.
"More shots, less moonshots, It's much easier to double down on something that already works than working blind-fully on a moonshot project." —Ben Issen
Celebrate often!
Celebrate small wins to celebrate often, and give yourself the credit that you deserve, nothing more, nothing less.
The feeling of accomplishment is what will give you the power to continue.
Quote of the Week
Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
- Francis of Assisi
